Coming Together For A Cause
With the turn of a new decade, we can't help but reflect and re-evaluate all the things that we hold close to our hearts. All of us here at MMA International have a deep passion for our communities and helping those in need. We feel that it's our duty and responsibility as both individuals and as a business to give back, volunteer or donate to organizations that are meaningful to us. For close to 15 years, our "I'm A Star" Community Service Program has helped us to do just that, and we are proud to continue this service today! We are expanding this program by adding new designs to include women, boys, men, and even our four-legged friends to better represent a cause or organization that is important to you. Read on to learn how it all began, how you can participate and design ideas that we encourage you to consider donating to charitable organizations in your community.
How It All Started
Several years ago, our long-time friend and fellow Austinite came to us with an idea. Russell Korman, president of Russell Korman Jewelers, had worked with a local charity called “The Settlement Home” for many years. The charity provided a safe and therapeutic living environment for severely abused and neglected girls and he wanted to design something special to show them they are important and that they are surrounded by people ready to encourage and support them. Together we designed a sterling silver star charm with the phrase “I’m A Star” on it and all the girls LOVED it! That’s when we knew we needed to extend this program to all our customers so we could reach girls across the country. From coast to coast, jewelers have helped us donate thousands of necklaces to deserving charitable organizations in their communities. For many of these girls and women, this is their first piece of precious jewelry and this small act can help boost self-esteem and let these individuals know they are special and truly valued in this world. In recent years, the “I’m A Star” charm has been used to celebrate milestones, encourage and reward individuals or sometimes simply to make people feel special. We know that there is something unique that jewelry can bring an individual and a community, and with our expanded line of charms offered as donations, the possibilities are endless.
How To Participate
If you would like to participate by donating to charitable causes in your community, we will donate the charms with your purchase of 18” chains. We still carry our original “I’m A Star” charms, but if you feel that another charm would better suit your charitable cause, you may select that, and we will provide the chain options available for your selection. The most common type of chain bought for our "I'm A Star" charm is our 18” 019 Light Box chain.
